FedEx shipping services
One of many shipping options
Here at Shipping Place & More™, we offer a variety of ways for you to ship packages. FedEx is one of our many shipping carriers. This industry leader is a popular choice for fast and efficient shipping, both domestically and worldwide.
An idea is born
Fifty years ago, Federal Express changed the shipping world forever with an innovative centralized strategy to move mail and packages overnight. The concept came out of a research paper written in 1965 by a Yale University student named Frederick Smith. Smith envisioned a shipping system designed for time-sensitive packages such as medical supplies, electronics, and computer parts.
While the paper received an average grade, Smith held on to the idea after serving in the military. He bought an interest in the aviation business in Arkansas and saw firsthand the logistics challenges in shipping goods in one or two business days. In 1971, he created Federal Express and two years later, the little company employed almost 400 people in Memphis, Tennessee, where FedEx is still based.
Shipping milestone
On April 17, 1973, “opening night,” 14 small planes left Memphis, selected by Smith for its central location and good weather. These planes landed in 25 cities in the eastern United States delivering 186 items for the next business day. A new shipping service paradigm was born.
Global leader
Today the FedEx shipping company delivers an average of 6.5 million items a day in the United States and more than 200 countries. FedEx owns 700 planes, the world’s largest fleet of all-cargo planes, including Airbus A-300s and A-310s and Boeing 757s, 767s, 777s, and MD-11s. More than 600,000 people work for this shipping giant.
Domestic FedEx services
FedEx offers many delivery options for shipping services anywhere in the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii. We help customers choose the right shipping service for their package, based on timing, cost, size, and weight.
Figuring out the best service for your needs can take a bit of research. The professionals at Shipping Place & More are experts at navigating through the process and can help you select the correct service. You don't need to open a FedEx account or research package requirements or overnight services. We’ll ask some questions and recommend the best way to ship your items to meet your needs.
FedEx Express options
The company offers different levels of FedEx courier shipping that guarantee package delivery within one to three days. Do you need your package delivered on or before 8:00 a.m. tomorrow -- or just before close of business? Would a 10:30 a.m. delivery be acceptable tomorrow -- or would the next day or third day work for your shipping needs? Depending on the FedEx Express shipping option selected, packages can be delivered by a FedEx courier from 8:00 a.m. the next day to the end of business on the third business day.
Domestic FedEx Ground shipping
FedEx delivers packages on the ground to every state in the U.S., including Alaska and Hawaii. Transit times range from one to 3 business days to 5 business days depending on the final destination of your packages. For instance, items going to some of the islands in Hawaii might have intermediate stops which can extra days. Once you choose your location select the shipping time you need. The distance your package travels will determine how long it takes to ship a package via FedEx Ground.
FedEx Freight shipments
FedEx Freight is among your delivery options when you are shipping a package over 150 lbs. Shipping can get complicated for goods and commodities above that weight. Transportation methods broaden when shipping domestically or globally by land, sea, and air. A large package could ship by train, truck, plane or ship. FedEx specializes in finding the right shipping options for freight shipments.
FedEx services
Today, FedEx corporation has a full portfolio of services in addition to the Express, Ground, and Freight shipping services. Other divisions include FedEx Office, FedEx Services, FedEx Cross Border, FedEx Custom Critical, and FedEx Logistics. Whatever the size of your company more from FedEx is available. Whether you need a FedEx courier to ship for one package or a major shipping partner for freight, FedEx has a solution for you.
What FedEx ships
FedEx will ship almost anything almost anywhere, as long as it isn’t on their restricted shipping list. Instead of listing what can be accepted for shipping, why don’t we tell you what we cannot ship via FedEx courier? It’s a far shorter list:
- Alcohol
- Tobacco
- Illegal drugs
- Firearms (including parts)
It is possible for FedEx to ship some specific items that we are not licensed to ship for customers. These specialized shipments include firearms, pressurized containers, hazardous materials, explosives, and fireworks. It requires special licenses and permits to ship some ofthese items which Shipping Place & More can not be approved for.
Drop-off times
Typically our deadline for Ground shipping is 4:30 on weekdays with the Express deadline at 5:00 p.m. Please drop by any time to ship your items: we are open for shipping from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.
